The JT Lady Jaguars returned to winning ways with a strong 47-28 victory over the KCCA Leopards on Friday, February 20, at YMCA Kampala in NBL Women competition.

Defense set the tone from the opening tip. The Lady Jaguars limited the Leopards to single-digit scoring in each quarter—5 points in the first, 6 in the second, 7 in the third, and 10 in the fourth—while building a steady lead throughout.

By halftime the score stood at 24-11. The third quarter extended the advantage to 34-18, and the final period closed out the game at 47-28.

As the case should be, when you dominate an opponent to that extent, you ought to blister your offensive through points which wasn’t the case today. While the defense was dominant, the Lady Jaguars finished with only 47 points on the night, shooting at a low 24% from the field. Despite forcing 22 turnovers (16 points off them) and out-rebounding KCCA 60-45 (17-4 in second-chance points), the team converted too few high-quality chances into makes, keeping the total output modest for such control of the game. Either way, a win is a win

Rebounding proved decisive, with the Lady Jaguars controlling the boards 60-45 and converting second-chance opportunities into a 17-4 edge in second-chance points. The team also forced 22 turnovers, leading to 16 points off those miscues.

Key contributors included:

  • Sarah Ageno: 7 points, 13 rebounds
  • Sandra Ayikoru Wangeshi: 7 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists
  • Shakirah Nanvubya: 6 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
  • Mercy Batamuliza: 3 points, 13 assists

For the Leopards, Ninette Uwineza and Susan Rebecca Aanyu each scored 7 points to lead their side.

The win serves as a strong response following last week’s result against the JKL Dolphins and ends the Leopards’ unbeaten start to the season.

The Lady Jaguars now turn their attention to the next matchup, focused on building consistency and momentum as the campaign continues.
