The Lady Jaguars identify as champions—so they must play championship-caliber basketball

The 2025 WNBL season couldn’t be off to a better start for the Lady Jaguars—literally. With an unbeaten record so far, this team is showing exactly why they’re built to win. Their most recent victory came against the Nkumba Marines, and up next is a promising matchup against the KCCA Leopards this Friday.
Now, let’s be clear: KCCA is no walkover. First, because no opponent at this level should ever be taken lightly. And second, because KCCA has every reason to come out with fire. They’ll be seeking revenge for the three losses we handed them last season—including that clean sweep in the quarterfinals.
Still, the truth remains—we are, without question, the best team in the WNBL. So these wins shouldn’t come as a surprise. “We are built to win, and we shall win a lot more.” What truly matters now is how we win these games.
It’s not about celebrating wins over specific teams—it’s about recognizing strong offensive execution, great defensive stands, and key improvements that elevate our game. Take the matchup against UPDF L’T Hawks, for example. Yes, we got the win—but our second-half performance was far from championship caliber. We allowed UPDF to control the game late, a lapse we simply can’t afford if we truly see ourselves as title contenders

That’s why we must commit to playing championship basketball—night in and night out. Every player on the roster must prioritize clean execution, because that’s what helps us grow. The bench, in particular, should seize every opportunity to prove to Coach Sudi that they’re ready when their number is called.
Tushe and Lynnette, the youngest players on the team, have tremendous potential. But potential alone isn’t enough—they need to become the baby-faced assassins of this squad when called upon. I believe Coach Sudi should consider giving them more minutes in certain matchups—not just for development, but to show them that our wins also depend on their presence. They must embrace that responsibility if they’re going to help this team reach the next level.
Lastly, let’s talk about our three-point shooting.
Time and again, it’s clear we have the best perimeter shooters in the league—Brenda, Mai, Aziida, Rhoda, and Priscilla can all light it up from deep. But with that level of talent, we should be producing more consistently from beyond the arc. Against Nkumba, we shot 8-for-27. Against the Angels, 7-for-25—similar to our performance against UPDF. These aren’t terrible numbers, but they fall short of what this group is capable of. These regular-season games are perfect opportunities to fine-tune our shooting rhythm and boost confidence from long range.
At the end of the day, regular-season wins are great—but they only matter if we use them to prepare for playoff basketball. This is about setting a standard of excellence and staying committed to it.
Because if you identify as a champion, you must play championship-caliber basketball.
