It’s not about how you start, but it is . The team has began their round 2 with 3 consecutive losses and this is already a problem

The Black Jaguars are facing adversity, with their backs against a five-game losing streak all stretching from Round 1. The team hasn’t won any of their last five games, including matches they ought to have taken advantage of this season.

Clearly, by now, it is evident that the team is not doing well, as these struggles are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.

What began as an inconsistent start has now developed into a concerning downturn.

“We haven’t really been at our best in a long time, and one of the problems we are trying to work on is having as many contributions from different players tallying up points on the scoreboard—not just one player showing up in a game. That inconsistency is something we are working on to win games,” said assistant coach Cuthbert.

Currently, the team is sitting in 9th position, outside the playoff bracket and within the bottom four, where relegation battles are said to exist. However, management remains confident in the team’s ability to improve and move into a better position.

“We still have the potential, even when all seems unwell. We have the ability because we have faced such adversity and come out of such situations before, so we can do that again,” he said.

Importantly, this is not an issue of squad quality. The team has demonstrated its capability in phases and, with almost the same squad, has previously shown the ability to go on strong runs and win games. Rather, the underlying concern lies in application—particularly in decisive moments.

In each of these recent fixtures, the losing margins have been decided by execution on the ball, with the team showing greater energy and desire ultimately prevailing.

The JT Jaguars have not shown that level of intensity in their last three games. Opponents have displayed greater urgency when it matters most, an area where the Jaguars have struggled to maintain consistency.

What this means is that the team is not losing games due to a lack of ability, but rather a lack of urgency and desire to secure wins. In other words, they are defeating themselves and making things easier for their opponents.

Something must change if the team is to make progress. The team needs to get a force of energy to force momentum on their side even on bad days. They need to win a minimum of five of their remaining eight games this season to secure a solid playoff seed and compete effectively in the postseason.

It all starts on Wednesday, 6th May, against the Kampala Rockets at the Kira Den.
