The Magic might be good at defense, but we are the best defensive team in the league.
Last night, we closed out Part 2 of Game 2 — the one split by the storm that felt like it had been sent by the Magic Stormers themselves — because honestly, what in the name of Seven Hills did we just witness? The stormers were all over the court playing what they do best, defense, seven minutes looked like a whole game after they came in much more aggressive and physical.
The game resumed from where it had stopped: 54–46, with 7 minutes and 23 seconds left on the clock. I can’t even recall the stats clearly because the Magic were everywhere. All I know is that we added 15 points while they added 20. They came out extremely physical and aggressive on defense — almost as if daring the umpires to make the calls. And the umpires as always left out a lot of those foul plays, but it was a simple message to simply give us a glimpse of what game 3 will look like. And now we know, now we are aware of what is coming and so we should be ready.
Despite all that, we were able to come out with the win. Sarah Ageno was sent to the line a couple of times, which really helped push us forward. Shakira had good looks and became more aggressive to match the energy that the Stormers brought. That will be the magic pill tonight — to get as physical as we can, because they won’t go down without a fight.
After showing us what they’re made of — defense — I didn’t want the game to drag beyond the buzzer. The Magic seemed to want it more, and even though some calls didn’t go our way, arguing with the officials wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Right now, the Magic believe they’ve got us after that display, which means we must show up ready to match their energy — on both ends of the court, especially on defense. Communication will be vital. Ajar will likely attack the paint with full force, so defense remains our top priority — even though the best defense is often a better offense.
It’s Game 3, and it all goes down tonight at 6:00 PM at the YMCA Courts, Wandegeya.
