We took care of business against the Magic Stormers at MTN Arena last night in Game 1 of the NBL Women Semi-Finals winning the game 77-61.
The team showed championship pedigree with strong defensive stands and explosive scoring runs that left the Stormers unable to find their rhythm throughout the game.
The captain herself led the charge contributing 17 points and 14 rebounds, while Brenda Kayaga, who was lethal in the first half, scored 16 points on 80% shooting from within the paint. Aziida Nalubega had a good night finishing with 14 points on 75% field-goal shooting.
Q.1 Strong Start Sets the Tone
The Jaguars came out firing, establishing an early lead with sharp ball movement and aggressive rebounding. We built momentum quickly, capitalizing on turnovers and pushing the tempo. A key 8–0 run midway through the quarter highlighted our transition game, as we closed the quarter with 24 points to the Stormers’ 16.
Q2: Dominance Before Halftime
The second quarter still belonged to us. We unleashed a high-scoring surge, stretching the lead with relentless pressure. A standout 12–2 run saw us dominate the paint and force misses on the other end. Our bench contributed valuable energy, and our defensive intensity limited the Magic Stormers’ second-chance opportunities. Halftime felt very comfortable for the Black and White.
Q3: Maintaining Control
Coming out of the break, the Stormers tried to mount a comeback, but the Jaguars responded with poise. We traded baskets early before another decisive scoring run likely a 9–0 thanks to timely threes and interior finishes. Rebounding advantages and assists helped us pull away further, wearing down the opposition.
The team then closed out business in the last quarter, securing a 77–61 victory in Game 1.
Game 2 will be on Sunday at the same venue at midday.
