The Jaguars will need a better offense to make the best defense tonight. By A.A Johnson | July 11, 2025 | 10:30 AM EAT

Tonight is going to be epic as two great teams will go head-to-head, the JT Jaguars taking on the City Oilers, who are the 10-time defending champions of the NBL. The game tips off at 9:00 PM at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

Last round, we beat the same team by 10 points, but right now, that Round One win doesn’t matter anymore. The Oilers have gotten much better since then. They have been on a long winning stretch and definitely want to rise the ladder. That means they aren’t looking to back down. But then there is also that revenge aspect that will want to come upon us hard and take back the loss they suffered from us in Round One—so expect a dog fight in the arena tonight.

The JT Jaguars, on the other hand, haven’t had good days lately. They have lost a couple of games in a back-to-back frustrating fashion, and this can’t extend today. Today is the day they ought to break the chains and bounce back to the winning circle—or else risk lowering their playoff chances this season.

They will need to play the Oilers like they never won that Round One game. The offense must be physical and fast enough to push in points for the team while mainly taking better care of the basketball. They should run the Oilers off the three-point lane, force them in the paint, and that’s where our centers should anticipate and do their thing.

As usual, the center players will be of so much help to the Jaguars, so I believe if the center players have a good day, we will be able to pull off the win. With George William Agassi back, I think the offense will be much better, and he will be able to add in points from the paint.

A good offense will definitely be the best defense in this game.
