Uganda’s national men’s basketball team, the Silverbacks, has bolstered its roster for Window 2 of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African qualifiers with the addition of Duncan Ian Lubwama.
The JT Jaguars point guard has been named the final member of the 12-man squad, completing the lineup under head coach Goran Lojo. Team Manager Albert Ahabwe confirmed the selection, citing Lubwama’s consistent domestic performance on film that earned him the spot.
A foundational figure for the JT Jaguars since the club’s inception, Lubwama was appointed team captain in January this year. Through the early stages of the season so far , Lubwama is averaging 8.5 points and 9 rebounds in the two games they have played so far—a strong start that is expected to rise significantly as the campaign progresses and he continues to impact both ends of the floor.
Lubwama joins a balanced group that blends veteran experience with emerging talent. The squad features captain Robinson Opong, Deng Geu, Jonathan Komagum, naturalized guard Nike Sibande Dejur (set to make his senior debut), alongside promising locals such as Naseef Lubowa, Joel Rugette Tejan, Fayed Baale, Joel Kayira, Titus Lual, Peter Obleng, and Edgar Munaaba.
The Silverbacks are set to compete in Group D, with matches scheduled in Alexandria, Egypt. Lubwama’s experience as a club captain and his all-around skills as a floor general are expected to bring valuable energy, stability, and playmaking to the backcourt as the team pursues qualification for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Congratulations to Duncan Ian Lubwama on this well-deserved call-up. Uganda basketball fans will be eagerly watching his contribution on the international stage.
