In a season-opening matchup at the Den, JT Jaguars rookie Wamusosi Johnson lived up to the early buzz in his first National Basketball League appearance, showing encouraging flashes even without registering points on the scoreboard.
The young guard logged 15 minutes in his debut and, while he didn’t score, his presence was felt through smart ball movement, defensive energy, and a growing comfort with the pace of the game. For a first-time NBL player, it was a solid foundation—and one that suggests he could quickly become an asset to this Jaguars roster.

“I was pretty nervous,” Johnson admitted after the game. “It was my first time playing in the league, and I was afraid of making mistakes. Even when my teammates trusted me to score, I chose to move the ball more. It’s something I need to work on before the next game.”
Jaguars assistant coach Cuthbert praised the rookie’s effort, highlighting Johnson’s ability to adjust quickly to the demands of NBL basketball.
“At least now I’ve had a real test in a game,” Johnson added. “I’m confident I’ll be much better next time. In the meantime, I’ll work on my shooting and finishing around the rim. I’ve learned that while I want my teammates to score, I also need to trust myself and know when to be a little selfish.”
The Jaguars went on to secure the win, a result that should further boost Johnson’s confidence as he prepares for the next home fixture against the Victoria University Crocs.
As the regular season unfolds, the Jaguars will look to integrate Johnson further into the rotation, building on his two-way potential, athleticism, and growing confidence at the league level.
