Say hello to Ian Asabo, the JT Jaguars’ new Public Relations Officer and Head of Media & Communications. The local talent, Ian joins the club after Aloysious “Black Mugisu” Kaptulum, who left quite the media legacy. With Ian’s bold ideas, he’s ready to take Jaguars media to the next level—and he’s got plenty of big plans up his sleeve.
Let’s get to know Ian a little better with this Q&A!

Q: What did you think of the Jaguars before stepping in as Head of PR?
Ian: “Honestly? I thought, ‘Wow, here’s a club that has big expectations!’ The Jaguars project has always been something I admired right from the start. You can tell a team’s serious by the signings they make, the execution and ambitions they have both on the court and off it. Now, I get to be part of the team and I can’t wait to get started.
Before joining the JT Jaguars, Ian was the media guy for the UCU Canons, where he didn’t just sit on the sidelines—he created a whole 12-episode series around the team last season. So yes, the man knows his way around a camera, and probably how to keep the team from saying anything too outrageous on record.
He’s stepping into his new role with some big goals: “I want to elevate the Jaguars brand not just as the best basketball club but the best sports club in the country.”
Q: What’s your bold prediction for the 2024-2025 season?

Ian: “Oh, here’s the thing: the Lady Jaguars are headed for the finals. They’ve been climbing up—finished 4th in 2022-23, hit 3rd last season, and they’re not slowing down. Finals are calling! As for the Black Jaguars, they didn’t make the semifinals last year, but they stayed in the league, which was the goal. This season, I’m thinking semis. Maybe even finals if we’re feeling fancy!”
Q: So what’s the first thing you want to improve in the Jaguars’ media team?
Ian: First, I’m excited to bring my experience from sports media, marketing, and PR to the JT Jaguars. I plan to bring educated expertise in sports media, marketing, and public relations to the Jaguars franchise. My goal is to elevate the brand as a whole and achieve our shared targets for growth and impact.”
