Brenda Kayaga, Brenda Kayaga, and oh yeah more Brenda Kayaga
The Lady Jaguars won their game last night taking down the KCCA Leopards 70-63. A strong start in the first quarter that laid the foundation was followed by a strong showing the rest of the way, as Brenda Kayaga’s 31-point explosion led the Lady Jaguars to victory.
The Lady Jaguars came out firing, quickly countering the leopard’s first two baskets in the blink of an eye. Ruth Letaru led the charge with a powerful drive, as Brenda Kayaga and Maimuna Nabbosa made forward runs.
While the Leopards were electing to not miss, the Lady Jaguars decided to work hard. They ripped out 5 offensive rebounds and forced 5 turnovers in the opening quarter alone. Those were 10 opportunities that they gave themselves to put the ball in the basket. The first period ended 22-15 with the Lady Jaguars leading
In the 2nd period, bench players set in to keep the momentum going, KCCA leopards kickstarted a run of their own capitalizing on turnovers that the white Jaguars made. It must have been challenging for the team as they went over 7 minutes without making a basket. The return of Brenda Kayaga back in the game seemed to make a significant impact as she ignited the spirits again after a jump shot. However, the KCCA Leopards had caused a lot of damage to bring themselves close to a one-point deficit of 29-28.
At halftime, the Lady Jaguars resorted to focusing on addressing their mistakes from the first half. Their efforts were evident as they reduced turnovers to just 6 in the 3rd period. The defensive strategy also evolved, effectively minimizing the impact of the opponent’s key scorers, Perus Nyamwenge and Amoding Moreen.
“We planned to make sure their scorers didn’t score, or if they did, they would have a hard time” said Coach Cuthbert. “We handled Perus and Moreen well, which was important for our defense.”
In fact, Moreen got frustrated and was sent away from the court for misconduct. The Lady Jaguars went ahead to finish their game as they exhibited a great teamwork strategy to win the game
Facts
Despite a poor shooting performance from beyond the arc—converting only 2 out of 26 attempts for a 7% success rate—the Lady Jaguars excelled in other areas. They dominated the paint, scoring 36 points, with Maimuna Nabbosa making all four of her two-point attempts. The team’s efficiency at the free-throw line was also notable, making 22 out of 34 attempts.

There is a lot to be said about the 3-point shots that Brenda Kayaga took in this game. Throughout the entire game, she shot 2-8 and only managed to make 4 buckets from beyond the arch. However, what she didn’t do was force bad looks. In fact, he did a tremendous job at the 2P with an impressive 8-12 and a good FT of 9-11 just missing 2. Brenda had the highest in the game with 31 points, nearly half of the team’s score.
Rebounding played a crucial role in the Jaguars’ success. Sarah Ageno and Mercy Batamuliza each grabbed 12 rebounds, many of which were offensive, providing crucial second-chance points.
Rhoda Naggita was also a significant source of energy for the team. I won’t go into too much detail, but she provided valuable minutes off the bench and boosted the Lady Jaguars’ offensive performance. Her ability to read the game and recognize when her forward runners were performing well was crucial.
Keys to the Game

2. Sarah Ageno’s Double-Double:
Ageno continued her impressive form, contributing 14 points and 12 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals impacting both the offensive and defensive ends.
