Five years ago, a vision was set into motion. What began as a journey for the JT Jaguars brand has grown into something far greater than a single club, it has become a focal point for the basketball fraternity in Uganda.
This November, as we celebrate half a decade of grit, passion, and culture, we proudly enter a new era under a unified banner: “Kira Ni Home.”
From Eight Teams to Eight Dimensions of the Game
When KIRA 8 was first conceived, the number “8” represented the eight pioneering teams step-on-court. Today, that number has evolved to reflect our expanding universe.
KIRA 8 Season 2 redefines the tournament structure by introducing eight distinct competition categories, ensuring that everyone from elite professionals to grassroots fans has a place under the floodlights:
Elite 5-on-5 (Men’s & Women’s)
3×3 Fast-Paced Stops (Men’s & Women’s)
Fans’ Showdown (Men’s & Women’s)
Legends’ 5-on-5 (Men’s & Women’s)
Whether it’s the clash of powerhouse clubs like the Kira Jaguars, Nam Blazers, UCU Canons, and JKL Lady Dolphins, or former icons lacing up on Friday nights, KIRA 8 captures every angle of the game.
The Friday Night & Weekend Experience
Stretching across four action-packed weekends, KIRA 8 is built as a complete festival of sport and entertainment:
Friday Night Lights: The weekend kicks off with late-night 3×3 circuit stops and Legends 5-on-5 clashes, running alongside live screenings of English Premier League matches on the big screen.
The Weekend Grind: High-stakes Elite 5×5 battles take center stage, driving teams through intense round-robin formats, quarterfinals, and high-intensity playoff rounds toward the championship trophy.
Off-Court Energy: Beyond the rim, KIRA 8 brings families and supporters together with dedicated children’s entertainment, curated food & drink options, and a festival atmosphere designed for the community.
Obonato — I Exist Because We Exist
At its heart, KIRA 8 remains committed to accessibility and pure passion. Entry to the tournament is completely free, with zero team participation fees.
Built on the foundation of OBONATO (“I exist because we exist”), Season 2 isn’t just about who takes home the trophy—it’s a celebration of heritage, unity, and the enduring spirit of African basketball.
Finya Ball. Play Hard. Care Loud.
See you on the court this November.
