This team is a joy to follow, on and off the court

By A.A Johnson June 10, 2025, 2:00pm EAT

In an era dominated by hot takes and drama-fueled clickbait, it’s refreshing—almost therapeutic—to simply enjoy something. You know, to cheer for a team not because they’re perfect, but because they’re genuinely fun, talented, and full of good vibes.

Sometimes, we root for “laundry”, blindly supporting whoever throws on the jersey. That often means convincing ourselves to like guys we’d probably avoid in a group chat. But every once in a while, the stars align and your favorite team is actually filled with people you’d gladly sit next to at a barbecue or kigele at Kyadi. The JT Jaguars are that kind of players

This roster is so likable, I had to write a little ode to each of them.

The Stars

Duncan Ian Lubwama

Yes, we’ve sung his praises before, and yes, we’re doing it again. For every word spilled on what Duncan isn’t, let’s not forget what he is: a top-5 (at least) player in the league. He dominates both ends of the court, makes his teammates better, and shows up every night like it’s the finals.

He’s put in the work, earned the respect, and he’s inching closer to a well-deserved national team call-up. Duncan’s the prototype of what a superstar should be; reliable, humble, and impossible to dislike.

Were Mark

Mark might be cut from the same cloth as Duncan talent-wise, but his energy is a whole different flavor. Calm, thoughtful, and quietly intense, Mark plays like your favorite assassin: precise, ruthless, and always in control of the ball. Don’t even try a one on one because you won’t guard him, he will mess you up and you will end up on a poster. “ Mark is a friendly and hardworking guy, he has so many ambitions and wants to achieve them at an early age” Says Moru Kevin.

Superstar Role Players

Fadhili Cuma

Cuma arrived like a bolt of energy and changed the DNA of this team. He’s our Draymond—minus the ejections. He’s the glue guy, the emotional engine, and the guy you don’t see in the stats sheet but definitely feel on the court. He’s got big dad energy, and we mean that in the best, most comforting way.

Peter Sifuma

When Peter joined the Jags, everyone was excited that Cuma finally got some help at the center and it was the only missing link to make it a complete puzzle. Peter is a calm player, and very gentle unless you play him dirty. Then it’s WWE with a basketball. He seems to have fitted in well and is obviously one of the pillars of the team.

Aaron Eboyu

Aaron’s the guy who gets the crowd up and chanting. He’s physical, aggressive, and has that “I’m going to hit a deep three just to make you mad” energy. He doesn’t just play the game, he charges it on bench. Even when the chips are down, he’s the guy firing everyone back up.

Kevin Moru

A tireless grinder. An awe-shucks sniper with the quiet confidence of a shooter that knows the next one is going down every time. The hardest working guy on a team full of hard workers. Every team needs a Kevin. We’re lucky to have ours.

The Stay Ready Guys (Quick Hits)

Elijah Adakun

Fast, springy, unpredictable – Elijah is fast growing, he has been on the first five for a good number of games and for a good reason.  If coolness is just living confidently and fully as yourself, I deem him the coolest guy on the team. Athletic, springy, and unpredictable. Another fun development project.

Victor Bwana

A Jaguars OG. Victor’s been holding it down since Division 2, and now captains the Black Jaguars with pride. Defense is his playground, and he shows up when it matters most. He just got done with school that has been holding him back a little. Now that he’s done, they are done.

Tong Abde

One of the tallest guys in the league and finally getting the minutes he deserves. His rebounding has leveled up big time. Expect more presence around the rim and probably a few heads bumped on low door frames.

Kasasa

Straight from the development pipeline to the big stage. He dominated the lower league and now he’s out to prove he belongs. Big body, big heart, big upside. Give him time, he will show up when you need him the most.

And We Haven’t Even Talked About the Head Coach Yet…

This team is a force to be reckoned with on the court, and that’s always fun to root for. But there’s another layer of awesome when the team is just so likeable off the court as well And honestly, I’m just happy to be along for the ride.
