JT Lady Jaguars adjusted their defense to counter Angels’ movement mixing switches and zone coverages to take away their flow. Meanwhile, Mary Priscilla’s playmaking kept the offense rolling, while Sarah Ageno made key defensive contributions. By A.A. Johnson | March 27, 2025, 11:00am EAT |

The truth is, this game was never about if the Lady Jaguars would win or not, that was a given. The real question was how they’d handle business. While the defense was perfect, the offense still left many of us wanting more.

Two key takeaways from the game:

#01. We had an absolutely elite defense

The Angels never stood a chance against the full-court press, and the numbers prove it. They finished the game with just 30 points, shooting a miserable 8-for-41 in the paint and making only two three-pointers. By halftime, they had just 21 points, struggling to even set up their offense. Every pass was contested, every possession rushed, every shot forced. And in the second half? It got even worse. The Angels managed only nine points, sealing their fate. The pressure was relentless, and they simply couldn’t keep up. This is the kind of defense that wins championships.

#02. Our offense didn’t hit its full stride.

Despite the win, our offensive execution left room for improvement. The third quarter was the highlight, where Mary Priscilla led a dominant 20-4 run, pushing the lead beyond reach, while Sandra capitalized with 10 points in the game. That stretch was the closest we got to seeing the offense at full power, but outside of that, it wasn’t as explosive as expected. The Jaguars finished with 73 points, just two more than they scored against JKL Dolphins. Given that the Angels and JKL are on completely different levels, a two-point difference between these matchups simply isn’t good enough.

Shooting from deep was another issue. The Jaguars went just 7-for-25 from three (28%)—a number that needs to be much higher for a team with this much offensive talent. As Coach Sudi always says, “You need to reward yourselves for good defense.” It doesn’t make sense to work so hard to get a stop, only to give the ball right back and be forced to defend again. That cycle doesn’t pay you for the effort you put in. You shut down your opponent, then you punish them on the other end. That’s how you make you work and get paid for your hard work

The silver lining came in Free-throw efficiency. The team shot 18-for-25 (72%), with four players shooting a perfect 100% from the stripe;

✔️ Shakira (4-4)

✔️ Mai (100%)

✔️ Mary Priscilla (100%)

✔️ Aziida (4-4)

That kind of composure will be useful in high-stakes games down the line.

So now, the Lady Jaguars stand at 2-0, and the push for an undefeated season is officially on. Next up: Nabisunsa on April 5th.
