The reigning champions. The Four time titleholders. The team that ended our playoff run last season. The JKL Lady Dolphins have dominated in the women’s basketball for quite some time now, and they proved it once again by defeating the Lady Jaguars in a 3-semifinals last season before securing the championship against UCU lady Canons.

That was then.

This is now. Friday 21.03.25

The 2025 WNBL season tips off today, and it begins with the most important game. The Lady Jaguars face the very team that ended their title hopes last season, under the bright lights of the Lugogo MTN Arena at 7:00 PM. And this time, we’re taking that win by hook or crook.

Here’s why 👇

1. We Have Her

The Lady Jaguars made one of the biggest off-season moves by acquiring Shakira Nanvubya from the Canons. Widely regarded as the best point guard in the country, she recently led the Gazelles to a championship, proving her ability to thrive under pressure. Now, paired with Rhoda Nagitta, she gives the Jaguars a dynamic offensive edge to complement their already elite defense.

2. We Are the Best Defensive Team in the Women’s League

No debates. The Lady Jaguars pride themselves on defense, and for good reason. Mercy Batamuliza, the league’s top rebounder, ensures second-chance points are a rarity for opponents. Sarah Ageno is a defensive force, setting the tone with her leadership and hustle. Last season, the lady Jaguars consistently held high-scoring teams well below their averages. Expect more of the same.

3.  We are The Hardest-Working Team in the League

Losing to JKL lady Dolphins last season wasn’t just a defeat—it was a lesson. Since then, the Lady Jaguars have been in the gym, putting in the work. Resources, time, energy—nothing has been spared. A team that invests this much in its craft can’t afford to let it go to waste. This is the moment to prove that hard work pays off.

4. We have The Deepest, Most Talented Roster in the WNBL

Find me another team with the depth of the Lady Jaguars, I’ll wait..🥱🥱

The shooting guard rotation alone; Mambo, Brenda, and the lethal Aziida is unmatched. The center position is locked down, and the forwards bring skill and versatility. Talent wins games, and the lady Jaguars have been built to win them all.

5. Game 1. The Most Important Game for the team

Forget last week’s game against St. Noa, I’ll take it that you gave them the win to encourage the young spirits. This is the real deal. Tomorrow’s game against JKL is what truly matters. A win sets the tone for the entire season. It’s about playing with passion, pride, and the relentless spirit of Obonato.

Of course, the counter to these arguments are pretty simple.

The JKL lady Dolphins, for as good as they look, can play better too. Their coach is a good one and he will be making adjustments of his own as well.  And they are still the defending champs so expect a very big fight to prove themselves as worthy and able to win again and again.

Still, with that said, I’m feelin’ a lady jaguars’ win on today.
